Learning is often associated with a student. But who is a student ? Typically, a child who goes to school is called as student. A child wearing a school uniform, neatly oiled hair, polished shoes and a bag on his back. This is the persona we visualize when we say a student. School uniform gives a sense of oneness and the bag on his back symbolizes a sense of responsibility.
As a student, life can be full of fun as well as the time to experiment with various thought processes and learn from it. The sense of responsibility comes much later as he graduates from school to college. But a student is a person who seeks knowledge, is curious, asks questions, yearns for the right answers and holds high the torch of learning. Learning is a continuous process and hence it is said, a person is a student all through his life. There is learning all the way, from the day a child is born till his last breath.
Each day he is learning
Each day he is learning something from his family, from his friends or from himself too. Internal and external factors also influence a lot in terms of learning and building curiosity. So much information is exchanged, that it really becomes difficult to know the right from the wrong. Then comes the stage of misinformation which leads to chaos. And so, the ability to gauge and to interpret information is also a part of the student life. Learning does not stop at the end of school or college. It actually begins. If the roots of learning are deep rooted, it becomes easier to absorb more knowledge as it comes.
What is Life without Knowledge?
Life is full of learning, knowledge is there everywhere and a man is a student all through is life. This is very important. Where learning stops, life becomes dull and stagnant. The essence of life is learning and gaining knowledge and spreading it in all directions so that everybody gains from it. A newborn baby, after a few weeks recognizes his mother with her fragrance. That’s the learning, the knowledge he has gained. His sense of smell tells him to differentiate his mother from other people. That’s the knowledge he has gained in the first few weeks. And it begins from there. He knows when I cry I get milk, I smile and someone cuddles me. That’s the knowledge gained through experience at a very young age. And he has learnt it with practice .
The just born life has already begun the student life. We have seen this so many times and we call it a natural instinct. As we grow, this natural instinct continues to guide us. But there are external influences too. Now, there is a combat between these too. Sometimes the natural instincts are powerful and sometimes the external influences are. To identify the right for you is also a learning process. Patience, perseverance, practice and positivity are the key. Weave these pearls at an early age to make learning an enriching experience. Student life is never ending and so are the struggles. These pearls are the light for the struggles which are at the end of the tunnel.
Be Positive
As a student, one should always be hopeful too. Rome was not built in a day nor was any scientist successful in his first attempt. There may be contradictions and conflicts but it is the belief in oneself which helps one to take the right decisions. But the one thing above all is respect. Respect for oneself as well as respect for other’s opinion. The exchange of ideas not only helps in developing an opinion but also helps in developing one’s analytical skills. To embrace each other’s opinion and learn with an open mind is a virtue very few have. And this formula works best for a fruitful learning experience. It not only expands your horizons but also widens your scope of visualization in a certain situation.
And hence, it is said, “Let noble thoughts come from every side”. Being a student gives a meaning to life, so why not be a student for life, gain knowledge from all spheres and cherish the beautiful moments of learning.
For the student in you…. Believe in yourself, for the obstacles you face are not bigger than your aspirations.

Nice article Richa. As u said learning is a life long process and it ceases at our last breath so one has to keep eyes and ears open to get knowledge from every sphere of life , being alert. The poet W.H.Davis said “What is this life full of care if no time to stand and stare”.Here I would like to add , ” What is this life full of care if no time to enhance the quality of life by expanding the horizon of knowledge.
